Description

An educational robot, ready to use and upgradeable

Thymio is a small mobile robot perfectly adapted to discover robotics. It aims to allow young people to discover the fascinating world of robots and technology by programming it and playing with its many features.

Already assembled, it can be started in a few seconds. With 6 pre-programmed behaviors, you can discover what it can do without waiting. Line tracking, obstacle detection ... You will see, Thymio can already do a lot of things!

Thymio adapts to your level and guides you along the way, from absolute beginners to more complex algorithms.

A comprehensive and resourceful solution

To guide you through these interfaces, there are many activities and educational resources developed for this little robot.

It is also compatible with many programming interfaces available in the Thymio Suite (VPL, VPL3, Scratch, Blockly, Aseba Studio) or through complementary software (Python, ROS).

With the Thymio VPL software, based on the Aseba suite, you can program Thymio with image blocks in an intuitive way. By combining events and actions, you can change Thymio's behaviour in a few clicks. It's the ideal solution for beginners!

Scratch and Blockly will provide you with a widely proven and commonly used block programming system, allowing complex behaviours without the constraint of typing or syntax problems.

Finally, a Python interface will take you to the next level with Thymio, with a very complete environment already used in many university level experiments.

Wireless configuration made easy

The Thymio II Wireless only needs its dongle to be programmed. No more plugging and unplugging the cable all the time!

Plus, with Thymio VPL's visual feedback, you'll be able to understand how your program is working in real time.

About Thymio

Thymio is the ultimate little robot that fits on your desk and is based entirely on open source hardware and software.

Completely open-source, it is designed by EPFL researchers, in collaboration with ECAL designers, and produced by Mobsya, a non-profit association whose mission is to offer complete and attractive STEAM curricula to learners of all ages.

Several countries such as Switzerland, France, Belgium, Canada and Tunisia have already integrated programming, computational thinking and educational robotics into their compulsory school curricula. More and more policy makers are following this trend every year, in order to facilitate access to these sciences and technologies of our modern daily life.

The Thymio robot is already being used in primary and secondary schools as well as in universities. The continuous development of Thymio allows for a complete concept of digital education based on :

  1. A sustainable and open-source platform

Compact and durable, Thymio has numerous LEDs that provide immediate visual feedback on the robot's perceptions through its touch sensors, accelerometer, two independent motors, microphone, speaker and many other features. The robot has been designed and adapted for use in all educational settings, from primary schools to universities.

  2. Simple programming interfaces

Thymio is a tool that allows you to explore the world of robotics at your own pace. Start with the six pre-programmed behaviours available and progress to increasingly sophisticated programming options such as visual block programming and text-based programming. Develop computational thinking and coding skills, as well as cross-curricular skills such as communication, collaboration, critical thinking and creativity.

  3. Educational resources and a rich ecosystem

Thymio has a key advantage in education by offering exciting learning paths based on ready-to-use educational activities. These pathways stimulate, inspire and arouse the curiosity of users at all levels. They enable the acquisition of diverse STEAM knowledge and cross-curricular skills through a multidimensional learning pathway.

  4. The community around Thymio II

Rely on a community of users who really help each other around this participative project. Join the Thymio II community and visit the ASEBA website  and its forum rum! You'll find hundreds of discussions with lots of useful information, official documentation, examples of achievements ...
