Raspberry Pi Pico 2
Improved performance, still in a mini-format!
-
Based on the success of the original Pico, but with the brand-new RP235x microcontroller chip created by Raspberry Pi in the UK
-
With more powerful ARM cores, clock speed, SRAM and flash memory!
-
New security architecture, based on Arm TrustZone
-
The Raspberry Pi Pico 2 offers enhanced performance and functionality, while remaining compatible (hardware and software) with previous models in the Raspberry Pi Pico family and their accessories!
The Pico range expands with the new Pico 2 series!
The Raspberry Pi Pico family currently comprises four boards: Raspberry Pi Pico, Pico H, Pico W and Pico WH. The new Pico 2 series builds on the huge success of the original Raspberry Pi Pico product introduced in 2021. The all-new Pico 2 is now available, and one of the first questions that arises is how it outperforms its predecessor. The Raspberry Pi Pico 2 is still an economical, high-performance microcontroller with flexible digital interfaces.
Pico 2 improvements
Let's start with the new integrated microcontroller chip:
The RP235x, created in the UK by Raspberry Pi integrates 2 ARM Cortex-M33 computing cores operating at 150MHz. It has 520 kB of SRAM, and up to 4 MB of off-chip flash memory.
The RP2350's unique dual-core, dual-architecture capability gives users the flexibility to choose between a pair of standard Arm Cortex-M33 cores and a pair of Open-Hardware cores. This versatility allows the processor to be tailored to the specific needs of each project, optimizing performance and development possibilities. The Pico 2 is programmable in C/C++ and MicroPython.
Another new feature is therobust and comprehensive security architecture, based on Arm TrustZone technology for Cortex-M. Features include signed boot, 8 Kb of antifusible OTP for secure key storage, hardware acceleration for SHA-256 algorithms, a hardware random number generator (TRNG) and fast error detectors. This combination of technologies ensures advanced, reliable protection for your applications, guaranteeing a high level of security right from the design stage.
The Raspberry Pi Pico 2 brings significantly improved performance and functionality, while retaining full hardware and software compatibility with earlier models in the Raspberry Pi Pico family. This new version allows users to benefit from powerful enhancements without having to worry about integration with their existing projects.
