Breakout Extension IO

This module uses a Nuvoton MS51 microcontroller and an I2C to give you 14 additional input/output pins. Eight of these pins are connected to an analog-to-digital converter, so you can easily use older analog sensors with your Raspberry Pi, as well as passive components that use an analog signal (such as light-dependent resistors).

Six of the pins can be used as PWM outputs (up to 16 bits), which is ideal for controlling devices that require a simulated analog output, such as servos or non-addressable LEDs.

You can attach it to your Raspberry's GPIO directly or via an expansion board with headers, but it's also compatible with the Solderless Breakout Garden, making it super easy to use several different breakouts at once.

Software

You can access a Python library to use with your breakout extension IO card, as well as some practical examples that show you how to interact with different types of devices.

Notes

The default I2C address is 0x18, but it is possible to change it in the software if you want to use more than one IO extension, or avoid conflicts with other I2C devices. The new address will be stored in flash memory, so it will persist if not powered.
This board uses a Nuvoton MCU with custom firmware but if you are brave and passionate, you can substitute your own firmware to change the way this board works and have a super cheap and powerful microcontroller.
